| Winamp Hardware Interface | ||||
My PC, like many others, doubles as my audio system. With the advent of MP3's many people have ripped their CD collections and play them off their computer where individual tracks can be mixed and matched at will. While this arrangement has many advantages it is not the design purpose of most personal computers, and therefore lacks the familiar user interface of a CD player. With a strong dislike of having to turn on my monitor (and wait for it to wake up) just skip a track, I decided to take the first step towards a computer more like a CD player. This eventually took the shape of simple arrangement of buttons and a four digit 7-Segment LED display. While the interface itself only allows for a (just sufficient) eight buttons, the host software has quite a range of possible functions which can be assigned. I have plans to expand this basic interface with the likes of large LCD displays and infrared remotes, but all in good time.... |
