Tree Receiver Hardware - Overview of receiver design.
Tree Firmware Code - Explanation and download of firmware code.

Given that commercial GPS receivers are very easy to come buy these days and not altogether that expensive, and that a home made receiver is not likely to be very robust (or waterproof) one may be wondering why I would bother.... In truth, if I hadn't been gifted a GPS chipset and an appropriate antenna then I wouldn't have gone to the trouble.

So, in case you were wondering the point of this project was not to build my own GPS receiver to go bush with but rather just to see what could be done with a modern GPS chipset and get some idea of the potential usefulness for future projects. This project was built entirely out of my junk box with the exception of a length of coax cable for the antenna connection, bringing the total cost to NZ$2.63, batteries included.
